We all know that so far what kept ARC-520 to achieve FC's was the ability of the HBV to come back after the treatment stopped. While ARC-520 does a superb job at eradicating the virus as long as the patients are on treatment we need something to awaken the immune system as well....hence our hope that Monarch (the IFN arm) will provide us with the long-awaited FC's. However, as we know, PEG IFN comes with some ugly side-effects that many patients can't tolerate. But....here's what I just found...an article that talks about a newly found compound that is able to trigger innate immunity against viruses !!! The article states that innate immunity can be triggered through a molecule present in all our cells, known as RIG-I. To me this is big news and if ARWR's management is aware of these news as well I think they should explore the possibility of combining ARC-520/1 with this new compound in one of Monarch's arms.
